It’s been such an amazing couple of days here in North Texas, and I wish you could see the beaming smile on face right now. In quick response, I’ve seen so many Texans show just how big their hearts are, and that’s why I couldn’t wait to share it with you.
A few days ago, my friend and colleague Chelsea Roe with the Dallas County Young Democrats tapped me after a meeting with Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, they needed our help. Judge Clay Jenkins has offered a safe place for 2,000 of the over 75,000 (and still climbing) children who’ve sought refuge in Texas from horrible violence at home in South America. He made the decision as a father, then as a leader, that he just had to help these children in this humanitarian crisis.
He can’t do it alone.
So, I offered to help, and soon many North Texans heard the call, then Texans statewide, and even Americans outside of Texas have asked to help. Now we need your help:
Here are a few quick ways you can help the cause:
1) Donate necessary items through our Amazon Wishlist. This list ships the items directly to support organizations on the border, and in our home communities. We’ve hand selected some clothing, hygiene, and other items that have been requested by these agencies.

Direct Border relief:
2) Call your Leaders! Legislators and City Leaders need to know that you want to help! Call them and ask them to open their hearts, and open our communities to help give these children a safe place to stay! Find your legislator here: http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/Home.aspx
3) Send a message of support! Judge Clay Jenkins has opened his heart, but there are some who are riddled with fear and intolerance, who’ve sent violent, hateful, and hurtful messages to the Judge and others trying to help. We know Texas is better, and we know love is always greater than hate. So send cards, posters, letters, tweet, post, and call. Let your leaders know we are behind them, and we are beside these children. Use #LoveFromTexas Clay Jenkins is @JudgeClayJ
All in all we’ve got to send the message that Texas hearts are as big as Texas itself.
